Nana

The week after Jax was born we were lucky to have Nana here to help us.

I was so sleep deprived this week, I don't remember much of it.

 This was the first time Matix wanted anything to do with Jax.

 Aunt Mari and Tesla came over to meet Jax. These two are only two months apart.

So I'm only a little over a month late at posting about Jaxon.

To say I've been a little busy is an understatement. 

We'll see how much I can get done right now before one of the boys needs something.

We were told to be at the hospital at 6:30am but to call them before we left.

(I knew what that meant. I was calling to make sure they had room for me)

So I called at 6:20 and the nurse sure enough said they didn't have enough nurses on staff right then and to call back in 2 hours. 

Really? 

I went through this with Matix and now we are doing this again?

So Doug and I waited and watched a little Last Man Standing.

Even though I would have liked them to have room for me at 6:30, it was really a blessing they didn't.

I was so worried about Matix waking up with Nana (that was the first time he had seen her since she got in), so we were able to see Matix before we left.

Anyway, so I called back at 8:30 and they told me to be there at 9:30. 

They took us back right away when we got there.

It took them about an hour (10:30) before they started me on Pitocin.

They turned up my pitocin every hour or so. 

The doctor (Dr. Drewes-The doctor that was supposed to be on call had something come up. So there were two other doctors taking her place. Dr. Drewes was there first and then Dr. Rees. I was hoping Dr. Rees would deliver Jaxon. He is the same doctor that delivered Matix and my favorite one at Valley OBGYN.) wasn't able to come in until 1pm to break my water.

At this point I was still at a 3.5 and 70% effaced. 

 I was starting to feel painful contractions at 1:30, and so the epidural was put in.

They checked me again at this time and I was at 4. 

In between all of this Doug and I watched a lot of Last Man Standing on Netflix.

At about 2:30 Jaxon's heart rate was starting to drop with every contraction.

They were monitoring it very closely.

The nurse said she has seen worse and they would just watch it. 

I got checked at 2:45 and I was at a 5.

Dr. Rees was finally at the hospital for his shift and came in to say hi.

It was 3:15 and he told me that if I felt any pressure at all to call them.

I told him I couldn't feel anything from my epidural, so I wouldn't know I was having pressure.

At this point I was starting to feel some of my contractions again and Jaxon's heart rate was back to normal.

Dr. Rees told me at first he wasn't going to check me because the nurse had just done so a half hour ago, but after I told him I wouldn't be able to feel any pressure if I had some, he wanted to check me. 

After checking me, he said it was a good thing he did-I was complete and ready to push!!

I went from a 5 to 10 and fully effaced in a half hour. 

Dr. Rees told me that with the next baby, after my water breaks, things will happen fast!

So they got the room ready and Doug and I were shocked.

We thought we had a lot more time. 

Megan, my friend that was coming to take pictures, wasn't even there yet. 

Doug called her and she raced over. 

I didn't think she was going to make it.

I started pushing at 3:30.

Dr. Rees was his normal self and cracking jokes in between pushes. 

As Jaxon was crowning Dr. Reese was playing with all his hair.

Megan made it in just in time. 

Megan came in at 3:45 and Jaxon was born at 3:50!

I'll take 20 minutes of pushing over the 2 and half hours I did with Matix.

My Valentines day baby!

7lbs 13oz 20 inches 

3:50pm

They put him on my chest right away and I fell in love!

They took him and cleaned him off and then I was able to do more skin to skin.

While he was laying on my chest, he was grunting a lot and they took him away from me. 

I didn't think anything of it, but I guess that means he is having trouble breathing.

The nurse called the Respiratory Therapist and had him come listen to him.

After listening to him for a few min, he decided Jaxon needed to be in the NICU to be on CPAP machine for an hour.

This is common with newborns, so I wasn't worried. 

Doug went to the NICU with Jaxon.

Before taking me down to the Mother/baby floor, my nurse wheeled me to the NICU and let me see him and be with him for about 10 min.

When I saw him I felt so bad, he was rooting and all he had to suck on was a pacifier. 

This was not how I wanted things to go.

I wanted to be able to try to nurse him during skin to skin and because of his breathing that didn't happen.

I was so worried he wasn't going to be able to nurse.

Jaxon was in the NICU for an hour and then monitored for 30 min.

We wanted Matix to come to the hospital that night to see us and meet Jaxon.

Nana, Matix, Aunt Julie, and Uncle Jared showed up as Jaxon was getting his bath.

So 5 hours after he was born he was finally in our room with us.

When everyone left I was able to nurse Jaxon and he was a champ!

Home Stretch

Just under 4 weeks left! 

TWWOOOO!

My little man turned two yesterday.

When we ask him how old he is he holds up his whole hand 

(because he doesn't know how to only hold up two fingers) 

and says," ttwwwoooo!"

We had a fun filled day yesterday complete with riding a train and playing with friends.

Tonight we had cousins come over for cupcakes and to play.

Pretty sure Matix was on a sugar high all weekend.

I love Matix so much. Everyday I thank my Heavenly Father that I get to be his mom. 

He is the sweetest little boy.

Matix gets concerned when others cry and will help by sharing toys.

He rarely pushes or hits others and

he loves to give his unborn brother kisses.

My thoughts as of lately...

I'm so grateful school is over for right now. This last semester was really hard for me. 

I know I only took one class, but trying to find time to study with a busy toddler and being pregnant was rough. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely loved the class I took. 

I realize it will probably take me a million years to finish my undergrad and I'm totally okay with that.

Right now is our time to have kids and I'm not going to put that off for school or anything else.

I only have about 6 weeks left until this little guy comes! When did that happen?

If baby Bell(we haven't decided on a name yet) hasn't come by Valentines day, I'm going to get induced on that love filled day. My due date is the 15th, but I don't think my doctors induce on Saturdays. 

I have so many mixed emotions about the baby coming. I'm SOO excited and SOO nervous at the same time. I'm mostly concerned for Matix and his adjustment to not having my full attention all the time.

This concerns me so much that I have dreams about it. 

Any advice about this would be greatly appreciated.

I was able to keep my goal of giving up sweets until my Glucose test. 

I was really worried about getting gestational diabetes that I cut out sweets for about 2 months. 

It payed off and I don't have it.

Along with cutting out sweets, I kept at zumba at least twice a week where I was burning around 500 calories in an hour. This made me feel SO good. 

Because I have stayed so active, I haven't gained as much weight as I did with Matix. 

At my 16 week appointment I had only gained 12 ounces(and I don't get sick and throw up).

As of almost 2 weeks ago at my 32 week appointment my weight gain is up to 15lbs. 

I'm pretty dang proud of myself. 

As a result, I can still button up my PRE-PREGNANCY pants!! It's uncomfortable to wear them like that, but at least I know I can still button them.

Now that it's a new year, we need to get a new gym membership so I can keep at it.

Any suggestions on a good gym with spinning and zumba?

My blog might be taking the back seat for a while.

I really need to finish Matix's baby book before the new baby comes.

Plus I need to scrapbook December before we get too far into this new year. 

Also, I want to spend as much one on one time with Matix before his little brother comes.

I need to do some major organizing before baby comes. 

Matix has to share his drawers with the baby.

Just I've been thinking about getting some plastic drawers for their closet for 

blankets, socks, diapers, wipes, etc.

Doug and I are trying hard to stick to a strict budget for this year. 

We are hoping Doug gets into University of Utah's part-time MBA program for this fall.

He will be sending in his application soon.

That means student loans, which means DEBT!

EEKK! 

Plus new baby expenses, like diapers, should make for a fun year financially.

Does anyone still write in an old fashioned journal?

This year I want to write in a journal at least once a week.

Let's see if this goal sticks.

With Christmas behind us for another year, Doug and I have thought a lot about Santa and the role he will play in our family's Christmas from here on out.
We have decided to not give our kids presents from Santa
or teach them that Santa plays a big role in Christmas.
Doug is the one working hard to provide for our family(not Santa) and all gifts will be from mom and dad.
We would rather the focus be on our Savior at that time of year and not Santa.
We've been thinking about this for a while and Doug and I feel great about this.
One of my sisters does the same thing with her kids and I love what she has started.
